    This is not the process I follow. Seems a bit too risky. I always connect up the lines double and triple check to make sure they're in the right position then wrap up on the bar until 1 1/2 length of kite from leading edge to trailing. Then hold on to leading edge and especially if I need to swim connect my safety leash to the leading edge of the kite. While I'm walking out I'll unravel the lines from the bar while still connected to the kite. Very important here that you make sure your lines don't get caught on the kite and bundle up as you're letting them out. Then I switch my safety leash to the depower of the kite while holding onto the middle leading edge. Finally, to release the kite I hold onto whichever outside line for the direction I want the kite to drift. I let it drift halfway the length of the lines then let go of the lines completely and grab the bar while it drifts the rest of the way to the end of the lines. I would never recommend keeping the lines on the bar while powering up. A gust of wind pops up and that isn't going to be a fun ride. Plus you won't be able to activate depower. With the lines off the bar I'm anticipating if I need to activate saftey line and fully depower to do a recovery. That close to the shore you want as fast as possible access to the depower once you release the kite to the wind.

    Good tips thank you ! I specially notice your advice to move slightly upwind just when initiating the feet switch, first time I read it. I always switch stance being broad reach when out of a jibe and toe side, and that's too unstable to be reliable, so I'll try your tip. Besides, that would be helpful if you were to post a tuto on how to ride toe side, my main issue is not being able to ride close to the wind for long because I end up the nose facing the wind, so that's why I ride broad reach when toe side out of a jibe. I must add that I sail always with sea waves.

      Ok no problem. I'm always teaching people and always look for feedback during the lesson. Asking the ok part gives me the indication that the student is listening. There are many takes in between and its hard to calculate the last time I say ok. BUT like I ask to all that make this critical critique on the video presentation. Do you have anything to add that would help others in the community? Thats what this channel and comments are for. Happy shredding

    I have hard time to maintain the kite at 45 degree while controlling the speed.

    • @ewatersports
      @ewatersports 20 днів тому

      most likely its because you are not riding with one hand(back Hand) and also shifting the hand to the middle part of the bar. Go out and practice one handed body drags upwind... l, fully sheeted in and maintaining 1:30 or 10:30. Like a board retrieval but powered up, Angling body into the breeze. If you cant do it while body dragging you cant do it while riding.

      @@ewatersports Thanks for your quick reply. I meant that I had to keep signing the kite in order to maintain the speed. When I sheet in and out the bar, the kite will move down and up. I use Naish Kite which is hard to keep it steady.

    • @ewatersports
      @ewatersports 18 днів тому

      We would have to say that possibly you are on too small of a kite. Or you are extremely good at edging and your kite is being pulled up closer to the edge of the wind window. Try flatting the board a bit and turning the nose of the board into the breeze utilizing the fins more than the edge or just equaling the two

    I started this sport last fall and am equally comfortable in either direction, probably from windsurfing for 20 years. So I've never ridden toe-side. I crash halfway through every gybe. I'm thinking I should practice toe-side riding. Then, I need to pick between switching before or after. I've also moved from a 170-liter inflatable to a 114-liter Cabrina Code. For learning to Gybe I have two questions. Should I go back to the bigger board and when would be the best time to switch? Thanks for the advise in this video.

    hey man, love the effort the share this stuff eh! my question- on that first pop and hard back to 11 (while at apex ) , you speak about returning the kite back to 12, pausing , and then doing a tight back handed heli often I do the first half of this, sending the kite towards 11, just as you describe , but then I down loop by pivoting at that 11 o clock state and I ride away essentially converting the jump to a down looped transition. my question is then: was that down loop a heli, (you mentioned at the start there’s tons of variety in helis) and otherwise what’s the incentive to shift from what I described to your demonstration? these jumps are at 25-30ft , so maybe the incentive to push thru the maneuver to your finishing steps (back hand heli), is for higher jumps to avoid hard landings / style points etc?

    • @ewatersports
      @ewatersports 25 днів тому

      All of the above!. Helis are a thing of style but it boils down to just being a tool in your box. A true heli is a full 360 with kite above your head. A down loop is off in front of you and the kite never is sent faar enough back past your head. Think about the the kite being the blades of a helicopter. About the fuselage.

    I did a little bit of bar magic last week, what happened was my wing tip got too close to the water touched the surface and before I could swing it back up, a gust came and suddenly inverted my kite. 🤦‍♂️ not the first time I inverted my kite and probably not the last either. Being in the waves, it’s not the position you want to be in for long, so I had 2 options: chicken Loop quick release and try to reset rather than self rescue or tug on the center lines and see if I can invert the kite. I went for the second option and after pulling really hard on the center lines, I was able to put the kite into beach pose on the water, I was then able to re-launch my kite only now the lines were crossed, but it still flys ok and I was able to get back to the beach, sure I could’ve tried to play with it some more to fix the lines but when you’re in deep water and waves doing bar juggling is probably not the best idea. Much easier to sail back to the beach, safely land the kite, and then fix the crossed lines. I know it’s frowned upon in the community to drop your kite in the water, but I drop my kite all the time because I’m always trying new stuff. I look at it as an opportunity to learn something new.
